Professor Ritger's Students Present New Exhibition "Let the Old Traditions Fail" at Rauner Library

"Let the Old Traditions Fail" Exhibition on Display in Rauner Library July through September

A new exhibit "Let the Old Traditions Fail" will be on display in the Class of 1965 Galleries of Rauner Library July through September. The students in Professor Matthew Ritger's ENGL 61.03/WGSS 66.20 class, "Early Modern Literature and the History of Sexuality," created the exhibit, which focuses on the persistence of feminist and queer life at Dartmouth in the twentieth century. The exhibition coincides with the Dartmouth Gay and Lesbian Alumni Association's 40th Reunion. The exhibit is divided into four groups: 1) Who Wears the Corset? Cross-dressing at Dartmouth and Institutional Panic 2) Hiding in Plain Sight: Gay Student Fiction from 1914-1923 3) Wo(Men) of Dartmouth: What does it mean to be a "Man of Dartmouth"? and 4) "Devotedly Peter": A Chronology of Professor Saccio (1941-2024), the First Openly Gay Professor at Dartmouth College.
