The English and Creative Writing Department is holding two conferences in 2022: The Black Nature Conference and Robert Hayden: Race, Lineage, and the Exploding Canon.

Lineage and Redress: Robert Hayden's Uncompromising Vision

Robert Hayden's work was ahead of its time, but his vision was derided in his time. Scholars and Creative Artists gathered to discuss the man, the significance of his work, and Hayden's continuing impact upon poets writing today, particularly a group of poets rising from Hayden's hometown, Detroit, MI. The symposium took place September 21-23, 2022.

The Black Nature Conference

The 10th anniversary conference celebration of Camille Dungy's groundbreaking 2009 anthology, Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry, will bring together contemporary poets and critical theorists from across the spectrum of genre and academic discipline.

The conference will convene at Dartmouth College on May 10 and 11, 2022, and be hosted by the department of English and Creative Writing.
