Book Launch for Cleopatra Mathis

In July, Professor Emerita Cleopatra Mathis published her collection, After the Body: Poems New and Selected (Sarabande Books, 2020). To celebrate, former students are organizing a virtual poetry reading, to take place on Sunday, August 30th, at 5pm. Participants have each selected a poem of Professor Mathis's to read in her honor, to be followed by new work from Mathis herself. Readers, all of whom are former students of the Department of English and Creative Writing, and many of whom are now poets, writers, teachers, and creators in their own right, stretch from members of the class of 1984 to members of the class of 2018. They include: Bill Carty '03, Nicky Conroy '03, Alex DiBranco '11, Kimberly Kruge '09, Jon Larner-Lewis '03, Jen Levitt '03, Jennifer Land Mackenzie '96, Hannah Matheson '18, Erika Meitner '96, Rena Mosteirin '05, Dai Lin '09, Rachel Richardson '01, Matthew Ritger '10, Deborah Schupack '84, Nomi Stone '03, and Diana Whitney '95. Rachel Richardson, author of two collections of poetry and co-director of Left Margin Lit, will emcee. For the Zoom link, please email Matthew Ritger.
