The English Major

To file for a major in English, you must meet with one of the English Department faculty to discuss major requirements and complete your major card. Please fill out three major cards. You must give one signed major card, and the worksheet that accompanies it, to the English Department administrator in 202 Sanborn, one signed major card to the registrar's office, and keep the third card for your records.

For those of you filing electronically (16s and beyond):

In order to officially file for a major/minor in English, you must meet with one of the English Department faculty to discuss major/minor requirements and get faculty approval.

In addition, you must fill out a major/minor worksheet, have your faculty advisor sign the worksheet, and then give the signed worksheet to the English Department administrator in 202 Sanborn.

Requirements for the classes of 2006 through 2016

The English major includes a declared concentration area as well as a required distribution of courses. Students plan their courses and choose a concentration area in consultation with a faculty advisor in their sophomore year and review their progress in the major with their faculty advisor in the spring term of their junior year or fall term of their senior year.

The modified major in English includes a declared concentration area as well as a required distribution of courses. One or two of the modifying courses must be included in the concentration area.

The minor in English requires six courses, four of which must form a concentration area.

All majors, modified majors and minors must consult with a faculty advisor before filing their major.
